Position Begins: August 5, 2024

Status: Full-time, 10.5 Months, Exempt

Position Description:

This is a full-time position beginning in August 2024. Aligned with our mission statement, we seek to achieve ongoing excellence in academics by also tending to the environments and mindsets that allow students to engage with and work through challenges in healthy and productive ways. St. Paul Academy and Summit School strives to support students in the development of skills that promote wellness and balance in the context of our school program and to teach strategies for persevering through developmental challenges that accompany learning and growing. The counselors are an integral part of the Administrative Team and may provide consultative services to the student support team, classroom teachers, and parents and guardians.

This position will work in collaboration with the Upper School Leadership to develop a cohesive and developmentally informed social/emotional, wellness and health program for grades 9-12; focus areas include seminars in chemical health, mental health, stress-management, relationships, and sexual health. Teaching seminar courses in the Upper School constitutes approximately 40% of this position.

Successful candidates will have extensive experience working in high school settings to provide direct counseling services, facilitate student groups, provide parent and teacher education, and serve as a liaison for community mental health and medical professionals. Additional experience in clinical settings is preferred.

In addition, successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish a supportive and engaging environment for students and to work collaboratively with parents/guardians. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have experience and a desire to work within diverse communities and across cultural differences. As importantly, we seek candidates committed to developing and practicing cultural competence in their teaching, counseling, and research work. Candidates should be able to advise students effectively and otherwise contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Requirements:

Requirements: Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, school psychology, or a related field.

Preferable: MN licensure in area of expertise.
