Description:
A successful candidate will create a competitive experience while remaining inclusive and committed to fostering belonging for ALL team members, regardless of experience. At SPA, we see athletics as an extension of the classroom and a vital part of the full Middle School student experience at SPA. Our teams offer a developmentally appropriate atmosphere for student-athletes to grow socially, emotionally, and physically through participation and competition.

The season begins August 25th, 2025. Practices will be Monday through Thursday from 3:00-4:30 p.m., with one or two games per week. Games are on Saturday mornings. Coaches will serve as mentors and positive role models for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Our coaches will demonstrate organizational skills in practices and games, effective communication skills, teach and develop essential skills necessary for the sport, display positive game conduct, and develop players’ ability to work together as a team. SPA coaches will be required to fulfill the Middle School Athletics philosophy and the program vision as developed by the Upper School varsity head coach.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Ensure the soccer culture reflects the “Spartan Way” - Integrity, Excellence, and Passion, and the student athletes reflect the values of SPA athletics.

  2. Create a positive environment that promotes team excellence - “We Before Me”

  3. Work closely with the MS Athletic Director on scheduling and team guidelines/logistics

  4. Partnering with the Varsity Coaching Staff on implementing relevant practice plans and coaching strategies to support the mission and vision for the SPA soccer program

  5. Implement well-organized and structured practices and work to provide playing opportunities for all players in every contest

  6. Work with the athletics administrative assistant in scheduling transportation

  7. Maintain accurate records and other required paperwork (rosters, schedules, and game results)

  8. Provide effective supervision and evaluation of all players and regular communication via emails and Team Snap application

  9. Create a rapport with the student-athletes and their families

  10. Effective cross-cultural communication skills. Able to operate effectively in diverse environments and interact successfully with people from widely varying backgrounds in a friendly and professional manner.

  11. Recognize the contributions of all; impressing upon the athletes and parents that their efforts are valued, while creating a positive team culture
